Dashiell Robert "Dash" Parr is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Violet Parr) of The Incredibles, and Incredibles 2. He is the elder son and middle child of Bob and Helen, the younger brother of Violet, and the older brother of Jack-Jack.

Personality[]

Dash is, as described by his mother as "a very competitive boy, and a bit of a showoff". Due to society rejecting Supers, he struggles to find a way to vent his energy, not being allowed to partake in sports as it could expose their identities and it would be unfair for other kids. As a result, he took to using his abilities to throw pranks without getting caught to test his limits, causing him to become somewhat of a problem child. Dash's reckless nature and one-track mind also gets him into trouble with his big sister, Violet. Dash annoys her frequently, even using his powers to bully her at times as another way to vent his frustration, which has somewhat strained their relationship.

Dash often gets into trouble and loves playing pranks on his least favorite teacher, Mr. Bernie Kropp. He agrees with his father's belief that he shouldn't be ashamed of his abilities or need to hide them, believing it makes him special, however, his mother disagrees. His goal is to compete in sports: his power of speed would make him special. His mother forbids it on account that "everyone's special" (noted by Dash to be the equivalent of saying "no one is").

After the battle against Syndrome and the Omnidroid, perhaps due to his near-death experiences, Dash has learned to keep his ego in check. He was allowed to partake in sports under the condition he holds back to give others a chance, a promise he kept. Through fighting bad guys together, he has also improved his relationship with his sister, no longer bullying her with his powers and annoying her less frequently.

In the sequel, Dash's personality is basically the same, though he does seem to take school more seriously. He has seemingly matured, as evidenced when he saved an elderly woman from a falling car and his responsibility as an older brother to Jack-Jack. He has also developed aspirations of becoming a superhero like his parents.

Physical Appearance[]

According to official sources, Dash is 10 years old, he stands at 4'0" (122 cm) tall, and he weighs 60 pounds (27 kg). He has blonde hair and blue eyes, just like his father, Bob. He also has fair skin and light freckles. His supersuit consists of a red unitard with black bottoms and an "I" insignia on the chest, along with an orange belt, black gloves, knee-high black boots, and a black eye mask.

Biography[]

The Incredibles[]

Dash is first seen in Principal Walker's office with his mother, accused by Bernie Kropp, Dash's least favorite teacher, of putting a thumbtack on his chair. Bernie shows a tape of the incident, but Dash performs the act too quickly for anyone to spot him. Dash is excused by Principal Walker, infuriating Bernie.

At dinner, he teases Violet about her crush on her classmate, Tony Rydinger, which insults her. This erupts into a fight, in which Dash runs around the table, hitting Violet, and Violet retaliates by generating her force-field that Dash crashes into. The fight is broken up when Lucius Best (Frozone), a long-time family friend, rings the doorbell. Dash squirts water at Lucius for him to freeze it – a tradition between the two.

After Dash's father, Bob Parr, returns from his night with Lucius, Dash and Violet hear their parents arguing loudly and rush into the scene to investigate. Bob feels the wind, which makes him sense Dash's presence in the same room he and Helen, are and assures the children that he and Helen work as a team, no matter what. Helen apologizes to the children for waking them up before ushering them back to bed. After Bob returns from Nomanisan Island, they are seen playing slot car racing and catch (the latter foreshadows a later event).

After Bob is captured by Syndrome on his return to Nomanisan Island, Helen packs her bags to rescue him after a brief visit with superhero fashion designer Edna Mode. As she does, Dash sees the suit made for him and puts it on, naming himself The Dash. Dash then goes after his mother, wanting to find out what his mother is up to, with Violet following him, trying to stop him. The two siblings end up stowing away on a plane Helen has borrowed from a friend. When Helen finds them in the plane, the siblings argue on who's fault it is, and Helen is shocked that they have left Jack-Jack alone in their house, to which Violet replies that she got a school friend to take care of the baby. During the flight, missiles, sent by Syndrome, close in on the plane, causing Dash to become worried about getting killed by the missiles. Helen is forced to save her children's lives by wrapping herself around Dash and Violet just as the missiles slam into the plane, destroying the aircraft. The three then fall from the sky, but Helen then grabs the two and turns her body into a parachute. Landing in the water, Dash despairs that he, Violet, and Helen are all going to die, but Helen sternly tells the two to get a grip; otherwise, she will ground them.

Seeing contrails left behind by the missiles, Helen decides to head in the direction where the missiles came from. She then changes into a lifeboat with Dash serving as the outboard motor, for which Helen praises him upon their arrival at a shore of Nomanisan Island. In their camp out (a cave), she warns the children that the bad guys they will be facing are different from those on cartoons as those bad guys are merciless and will kill them if they get a chance. Thus, she encourages Dash to run as fast as he can should things go wrong, to his excitement at being allowed to use his powers, before she goes off to Syndrome's base.

Being rebellious, Dash hates it when Violet is in charge. He and Violet have another verbal disagreement, in which she is concerned Dash thinks this is merely a vacation. She warns him that their lives or even their marriage could be at risk. Dash then decides to explore deep into the cave but is forced to retreat when flames come in his direction (The cave Dash and Violet are in is actually a rocket exhaust pipe). Dash grabs Violet, and they narrowly escape the flames, just in time to see a rocket taking off into the night sky. They spend the rest of the night in a jungle, huddling together to keep warm.

The next morning, Dash hears a monitor robot (disguised as a wild bird) asking for identification. His and Violet's curiosity triggers a deafening alarm of the robotic bird, prompting them to run with the bird flying after them. Soon, the two are cornered by three Velocipods that are patrolled by Syndrome's security guards. Dash, remembering his mother's advice, starts running at superhuman speed. Two of the security guards chase him (while the third engages an invisible Violet). In this episode, Dash discovers just how formidable his superpower really is: he has a superior reaction time, he can deliver rapid-fire punches (but lacks the strength to do any lasting damage), and at full speed he can run on water. While on the water, he gets cornered by the two Velocipods. He stops on the lagoon's surface and immediately submerges, saving his life as his pursuers collide into each other.

Eventually, Dash returns to where he started running just in time to save Violet from the third guard, ramming into him and knocking him down. Dash lands on the guard and punches him for trying to harm the former's sister, but the guard punches Dash off and threatens to shoot him. Seeing the danger her brother is in, Violet jumps in and encloses herself and Dash within her force-field to protect them from gunfire. She and Dash discover that she can float inside her force-field if she generates them in mid-air. Dash then proceeds to move the force sphere by running along its inside surface, propelling it at considerable speeds and mowing down everything in their path. After destroying a couple more Velocipods, they literally run over their parents. After a brief and joyful reunion, the family works as a Super team for the first time as another wave of henchmen find them and attack them. Dash runs around the family to create a dust cloud, from which the Incredibles attack the guards, taking them down one by one.

Just then, Syndrome arrives at the scene and immobilizes them in his zero-point energy. Imprisoning the family in his base's containment unit, Syndrome describes Operation Kronos: his plan to fraudulently become a superhero. Amidst Bob Parr's apology to Helen, Violet releases the restraints, allowing their escape. There are no jets in the hangar Helen saw during her arrival to Nomanisan Island, but Dash sees a rocket. Unfortunately, Helen has no knowledge on how to fly a rocket. Violet informs her to "just use the coordinates from the last launch." Syndrome's former co-worker Mirage, who has defected from her employer after folding her apparent relationship with him, steps in to help.

Helen holds a van to the rocket as Dash maintains his impatience asking if they have reached their destination. Upon their landing, Dash and Violet are nearly crushed to death by Syndrome's Omnidroid v.10, but Bob holds up the robot for Helen to reach for the kids and take them to safety. Bob then finds a remote Syndrome has left behind. Violet and Dash notice that "the remote controls the robot," and Dash calls to his father to throw the remote. Bob then throws the remote to Dash, who crosses the pond while catching it (garnering amazement from his dad). After the family and Lucius finally secure the remote, Violet and Dash still bicker and fight over it—during which Dash presses a button that frees Bob from the robot's claw it has fired at him—until Helen takes the remote. The Omnidroid is finally destroyed when Bob fires the detached claw that penetrates through its bulk and rips out its brainpan.

On their way home, Dash gets excited about how much fun he had during the entire adventure. When they arrive, they stop Syndrome from capturing Jack-Jack. Syndrome is killed when his cape gets snagged in the turbine of his manta jet, and Violet saves the family from being crushed by plane wreckage, which totals their home. Dash now wonders if they have to move again; to that the answer is yes. When the smoke clears, one of their neighbors, a young boy riding a tricycle named Rusty, is amazed by what happened as he yells, "That was totally wicked!"

Three months later, Dash finally gets his chance to participate in track & field but agrees with his parents that he cannot do anything to compromise the secret of his family nor grant himself an unfair advantage over the other contestants. Dash restrains himself, running only fast enough to win a silver cup, to which his family congratulates him for. When celebrating Dash's athletic accomplishment, his victory is interrupted by a new supervillain, The Underminer, who emerges from underneath the earth. Dash and the rest of the family don their masks and suits, showing their rededication to fighting crime.

Incredibles 2[]

The fight with The Underminer picks up where it left off, with the Incredibles about to intervene and try to stop him. Dash and Violet are tasked with looking after Jack-Jack, but both refuse. Dash keeps civilians away from danger, including an elderly woman who is saved by Dash from a falling car. When he finds Jack-Jack in his stroller unattended, he angrily calls out for Violet, who is saving civilians herself. Dash ends up in the Underminer's boiler with the rest of his family, but they are arrested by the police for breaking the anti-Super law and for the damages the Underminer caused. However, Rick Dicker bails them out and escorts them to a motel, here they can only stay for two weeks. At dinner, Violet brings up what happened earlier, and the family argue, with Dash asserting that he wants to fight bad guys.

Winston Deavor offers the Parrs one of his mansions since Dash's parents are included with Winston's campaign to re-legalize Supers. Like the rest of his family, Dash is in awe of the mansion, in particular the large backyard which includes a pool. He triggers various remote-controlled features, almost causing his family to fall into the water features. He approaches his dad for help with math, but Bob gets frustrated since the math Dash is learning is different to what he learnt. Later that night, Bob wakes up and goes through the math book on his own. He wakes up Dash early in the morning to help him finish his homework.

Bob takes the family, not counting Helen, to the Happy Platter, where Tony works, and is owned by his parents. This is so Violet can be re-acquainted with Tony after Tony's memories of Violet were wiped. However, Violet squirts water out of her nose as a result of being shocked to see Tony. Dash is amazed and entertained by this, and remarks that the water the Parrs were served is 'excellent'.

The next day, Dash and Bob see a news story on TV about how a rich guy bought the Incredibile. Dash is amazed his father used to drive such an amazing car while Bob is furious since he was told it had been destroyed. Dash activates the car, frightening the man and woman standing near the car, but Bob snatches the remote from him. Dash is disappointed when his father restrains himself and deactivates the car. Dash is amazed when Jack-Jack reveals that he has powers but is disappointed when it is revealed Bob knew all along and didn't tell him or Violet. Dash and Violet confront him on this until he is shocked into silence after Bob angrily rants about how overwhelmed he is, prompting Violet to call Lucius for help. Dash watches as Lucius tries to help Bob with Jack-Jack but proves to be a lot to handle for the Parrs and Lucius. Bob takes Jack-Jack to Edna's for help.

Later on, he and his sister join Bob in testing Jack-Jack's new powers and is amazed by Jack-Jack. When Bob gets a call that Helen is in trouble, he leaves Violet in charge of Dash and Jack-Jack. Bob calls Lucius to babysit the kids, just in case the kids are endangered. Dash answers the door and is greeted by the hypnotized wannabe Supers. Lucius, in his Frozone supersuit, protects Dash and Violet from the hypnotized Supers. The three of them fight them off, until Frozone has a pair of hypno-goggles placed on him. Dash then summons Bob's Incredibile which arrives and saves them from the mind-controlled Supers. The kids use the vehicle to escape, which they use to get them to the boat where their mind-controlled parents and Frozone are being kept by Evelyn Deavor.

Aboard the Everjust, the three Parr children make it their mission to find and rescue their parents and Frozone. Dash is told by Violet to look after Jack-Jack while she looks for them, to Dash's annoyance. Jack-Jack escapes the room by phasing through a wall, causing Dash to panic and chase after him. When Violet asks Dash where Jack-Jack is, he shrugs, much to her annoyance. They find Jack-Jack on fire in the kitchen, and due to Jack-Jack's noise, they are found by the wannabe Supers. They hide in the air vent and are only saved from Krushauer by an expanding Jack-Jack. They find their parents and Frozone, but they are under Evelyn's control. Jack-Jack manages to dislodge Helen's goggles and she frees both Mr. Incredible and Frozone from being mind-controlled, and then free the other Supers from Evelyn's control. The group realizes that the yacht is on a course to crash into the city. They work together and manage to stop the boat before it does any damage while Helen thwarts Evelyn's escape. Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack are able to free their parents and Lucius after fighting their way -past the hypnotised Supers. Together they manage to stop the boat from crashing into land and causing more destruction.

Dash is with his family and Tony as they head to the cinemas, shaking hands with Tony, embarrassing Violet in the process. Once they get there, they witness two speeding cars engaging in a shoot-out. Violet leaves Tony at the movies with a promise of coming back after having dealt with the threat.

Powers and Abilities[]

TI Dash Chases Remote

Dash outrunning the Omnidroid v.8

  • Superhuman Speed: Dash possesses the superhuman capacity to move at great speeds; the film series has yet to establish his maximum running speed, however, Dash's speed is sufficient enough to allow him to be able to run over water without submerging. This speed also appears to extend to his other individual limbs: he is able to punch at a rapid rate (however this does not appear to intensify the impact of his blows). It should be noted that Dash is still very young, so it's possible he will get even faster with age. His superhuman speed also grants him several other abilities that come in handy when in combat situations. The Incredibles video game shows his maximum speed at over 190mph (306kmh), however, after learning some new abilities while on the heat of battle, Dash realized he was fast enough to run on water and on horizontal surfaces, like walls or ceilings.
    • Superhuman Agility: Combining his superhumanly fast speed with the momentum he creates while on the run, Dash is capable of accomplishing feats of superhuman agility, no other normal human, or even a Super like his father could possibly perform.
    • Superhuman Reflexes: Dash's increased speed also augments his reaction time, making his reflexes much faster than those of an ordinary human. He uses this when engaging in combat or when in need of improvising.
    • Super-Speed Combat Ability: Dash's speed affects his entire body, allowing him the ability to combat an opponent with super-speedy punches and kicks.
    • Water Running: Because of his super speed, Dash can run on the surface of water by defying the surface tension and can move across the surface of water as easily as he would be able to move on land.
  • Superhuman Stamina: Dash can physically exert himself for long periods of time without getting tired. In the first movie, for example, he ran for a few minutes at his top speed with little time to catch a break, without showing any sign of fatigue.
  • Enhanced Strength: Dash has inherited his father's superhuman strength to an extent. He can deliver damages and attacks far tougher than a normal kid his size.
  • Enhanced Durability: The first film's official website listed "enhanced durability" amongst Dash's powers, which is implied in the film by the amount of incidental high-speed collisions and crashes Dash endures without taking any apparent or long-lasting injury.

Weaknesses[]

  • His super speed does not appear to intensify the impact of his blows.
  • Even though he can deliver rapid-fire punches, he lacks the strength to do any lasting damage.

Trivia[]

  • Dash is based on speedster superheroes, specifically The Flash from DC Comics and Quicksilver from Marvel Comics.
    • Specifically, Dash could be seen as visually based on the Barry Allen version of the Flash, with the red costume and blond hair.
    • Some localizations evidence this connection by changing Dash's name from "Dash" directly to "Flash".
    • Dash is a rough equivalent of Fantastic Four's Johnny Storm in his young, cocky personality.
  • In order to give Dash a realistic out-of-breath voice in certain scenes, director Brad Bird made Spencer Fox run laps around the Pixar studio.
