"Well, there's this girl in my class. I saw her at the track meet. I sorta knew her, but she'd changed. For better. She was more sure of herself, cool, cute. I asked her out for a movie. And then I went to watch the track meet. Not long after, this thing happened in the parking lot. As if things aren't weird enough, I look over and I see these boots. It looked like superheroes. I see my chance to get out of there. But, there's something familiar about one of the kids' voices. The girl, she's upset, and she throws down her mask, and it's her! This was getting too freaky. I couldn't handle it and ran off. I feel kinda bad about it. Maybe I should've said, hi, or something. It's not her fault superheroes are illegal."
—Tony explaining what happened when he saw Violet in her supersuit to Rick Dicker.

Anthony 'Tony' Rydinger is a minor character in The Incredibles, serving as the love interest for Violet Parr. He also appears in Incredibles 2 as a supporting character and the narrator at the beginning of the film, setting up a date with Violet at the end of the movie.

Personality[]

From the scenes that include Tony in the film, it can be implied that he is a calm, kind-hearted and friendly person, and is liked by most at his school. He is also shown to be just as awkward as Violet once was, acting shy and stuttering a lot when he asked Violet out on a date in the first film. In the sequel, Tony is shown to be a kind and approachable teenager, despite his popularity at school. He is also honest, recalling every detail truthfully about discovering Violet's identity as a superhero and the events leading up to it when Rick Dicker was questioning him. He even displayed sympathy towards Supers and their plight.

Even after losing his memory of Violet, Tony asked her politely if he knew her during their confrontation at school, and genuinely responded with concern after she sprayed water out of her nose upon seeing him at the Happy Platter, showing that he is genial to people he barely knows. Despite those awkward interactions, Tony was still open to become Violet's friend and accepted her date invitation.

Physical appearance[]

In the first film, Tony is of average build and is slightly taller than Violet. He has strawberry blonde hair and brown eyes.

In the sequel, Tony's appearance is changed dramatically. He now has a relatively slim build, brown hair and a younger-looking face.

Biography[]

The Incredibles[]

Tony is first seen at Western View Junior High, the school he and Violet attend. He is walking outside of the school with his posse, with Violet (who has a crush on Tony) admiring him from afar. Violet is seen to be too shy to talk to Tony, as when he almost notices her, she turns invisible. That night, when Violet is having dinner with her family, Dash teases her about her crush on Tony. He claims that she would eat more of the meatloaf if it was "Tonyloaf". This provokes Violet to attack him, and they fight until they hear Lucius ring the doorbell.

Tony is not seen again until the end of the film. Three months after the defeat of Syndrome, Tony notices Violet at the track meet Dash was competing in, seeing that she is a lot more confident and no longer hides behind her hair, and asks her on a date. However, Tony stutters and is quite awkward while asking Violet out. They then both decide to go on a date at the cinema, and Violet says she will buy the popcorn.

Incredibles 2[]

Tony plays a more important role in the film, namely on Violet's side of the narrative.

The film begins with Tony narrating the scene where he arranges a movie date with Violet at Dash's track meet, as well as his point of view of the fight between the Incredibles and the Underminer, and how he saw Violet with her supersuit on. When The Underminer attacks the city, Tony hides under a nearby car after nearly being hit by other cars. He sees the Incredibles go into action against the drill, with the two children watching Jack-Jack and handling crowd control. Just as he is about to leave, he hears the voice of one of the Supers, which sounds familiar. Turning around, he sees that the Super is Violet and, in a state of shock and confusion, runs away, despite her pleas. He is later brought in for questioning by Rick Dicker, where Tony explains how he knew Violet and how he saw her in her supersuit. His memory of the event is erased, incidentally along with any memory of Violet.

Due to the memory wipe, he has no recollection of making the date and does not show up at the cinema, which leaves Violet extremely distraught. The following school day, she approaches him, trying to make up an excuse for being in a supersuit, being oblivious to his memory wipe. Tony acts confused, not even knowing who she is, to which Violet angrily storms off.

The next morning, Bob, Violet's father, lets slip Tony's memory wipe. Violet reacts by throwing a tantrum and renouncing Supers. Tony later serves the Parrs, minus Helen, at The Happy Platter, his family’s diner. When he greets the family, a shocked Violet sprays water out her nose as her father introduces him to her, much to her embarrassment. She then leaves to go to the washroom, to clean up and avoid further embarrassment.

After Supers were made legal again, Violet approaches him at school, where Tony remembers her from the restaurant, and they make plans for a movie date. He is picked up by her family on the way to the theater. Violet introduces him to her family, who then make her feel embarrassed by engaging in awkward small talk. When they reach the theater, two cars engaged in a shootout drive past. Tony is left at the theater and is given some cash by Violet, who tells her to buy the tickets and snacks. The Parrs then drive away to chase the criminals.
